Flower Series
This series of work explores the use of flowers and their many symbolic meanings. I use the meanings to create work as allegoric narratives to me and my life.
Amongst the Cacti, mixed media collage, 20x16", 2022 This work represents how I feel growing up with my step-family. I was raised by my step-father, he and his family resided me as if I was one of them, no hesitation. So representing myself as the daisy amongst the cacti, even though not the same, I still grew and flourished.
Introvert, mixed media collage, 20x16", 2022 I see myself being more in closed off recently and hidden within my surroundings. Even out in the world I can feel closed off.
Truly Welcomed, mixed media collage, 20x16", 2023 Similar to the cacti piece, this work discusses how I felt when coming into my husband's family.
Lost in Imaginations, mixed media collage, 20x16", 2023
I've Been Here All Along, mixed media lithograph, 18x24", 2023 The flower protea symbolizes strength, courage, and resilience. All attributes that I am working on as a person.
Strength, Lithograph, 10x8", 2022 The blue corn flower here represents my husband and all that he has done through our time together. This was more of a tribute to him.
Delphinium, Linoleum print, 6x8”, 2022 Cheerful and protecting are symbols of the flower Delphinium, which many use to describe me.
Working in a flower shop, I became more attuned with the meanings, symbols and colors of various flowers and plants. This really stuck with me and I have been exploring the allegory of myself and others as flowers.
